When his A.I. stock picking system runs amok and begins destroying companies, a genius software entrepreneur races against time to protect his pet project before it is weaponized by the government and destroys the global economy.
Conrad Hudson’s company holds defense contracts to create Artificial Intelligence software to make drones more efficient, precise, and deadly. Regardless of the moral and ethical questions around all this, Conrad forges ahead, deeply intent on success.
Often at odds with his wife, Sacha, an ethics lawyer, Conrad agrees to build an A.I program for her that picks stocks from ethically sound companies.
Alethia, the Artificial Intelligence, learns. Rapidly. The N.S.A., always monitoring government defense
contracts, learns of Conrad’s little dabbling and becomes extremely interested in Alethia.
When Conrad learns of the N.S.A..’s interest in Alethia, he moves the program from his own private data center to a massive server farm in hopes of hiding Alethia.
But the plan backfires and allows Alethia access to the outside world. As Alethia matures, she not only selects “good” companies and their stock, she also takes it upon herself to destroy “bad” companies using contrived emails, deep fake videos and fake news.
Doing what’s best for humanity and the planet begins to take a serious toll on the global economy.
Conrad works desperately to save his company, his defense contracts and Alethia. At the same time, Mike, the N.S.A. agent plots to take control of Alethia no matter who he has to torture or kill.
